Narrator in Windows Vista can be very useful for some people and could be very annoying for others too, especially if you don't know how to disable it. You might spend hours trying to turn off the Narrator permanently.

Here are some easy steps to turn the Narrator on or off.

  1. Go to "Start"
  2. Click "Control Panel"
  3. Press "Ease of Access" then "Ease of Access Center"
  4. Under "Explore all settings", select "Use the computer without a display"

    Ease of Access Center
  5. Check "Turn on Narrator" to enable or uncheck "Turn on Narrator" to disable it.

  6. Select "Save"

I very much appreciated your posting this very clear description on how to disable the Narrator functionality (which must be driving many VISTA users to distraction since Microsoft has chosen to thoroughly obscure how to disable this potentially frustrating and certainly time-wasting function).

I will forward your instructions to everyone I know.

    Gratefully,

    John de Clef Pineiro
